Practical Tips For Stylish Wedding Flowers Without Breaking The Bank

GENERALLY

Choose flowers that are in season, they are cheaper.

Choose flowers that last well – hot sun can play havoc with delicate blooms.

If you have a tight budget, keep it simple. For example use one flower type in a vase to create a stylish minimalistic look or choose a few choice blooms in a fishbowl.

Choose to place your flowers where you and your guests will get the maximum pleasure and enjoyment from them – the places where you and your guests will spend the most time.

White flowers on an ivory dress can sometimes make the dress look dirty.

Balloons are a cheaper alternative to flowers and they can cheer up a less glamorous venue. Children and big children love them as well.

CREATING A CO-ORDINATED LOOK

Decide on a colour scheme and carry it through from the buttonholes to brides’ and bridesmaids’ bouquets to church flowers and reception flowers. It will create a co-ordinated and stylish look that flows throughout your day.

Co-ordinate your favours with the ribbon on your invitations and bridal flowers.

BOUQUETS

Hand tied bouquets are generally cheaper than those made in oasis or wired.

Bouquets once delivered should be kept in a cool place out of sunlight.

Hand Tied Bouquets once delivered should be placed in water until about half and hour before leaving for the church. Dry the stems to avoid marking the dresses.

BUTTONHOLES

The groom’s buttonhole is normally one of the same flowers as contained in the bride’s bouquet.

Choose a fancy buttonhole for Mums, Grandmas – you will find these are not only cheaper, but also lighter to wear.

Magnets can be attached to buttonholes to save damaging delicate fabrics such as chiffon or silk (Please note these should not be worn by anyone who has a pacemaker etc as it may interfere!)

Buttonholes and corsages once delivered are best kept in the crisper compartment of the fridge until required.

TABLE DECORATIONS

If you need an arrangement on your ceremony table save money and use this on your top table also.

Tall vases look really elegant but can get knocked over more easily than lower table arrangements.

Candelabras are lovely – do watch the height as they can obstruct a persons view across the table.

For an alternative to cut flower arrangements on the tables, think about using pot plants on the tables – for example something like lavender. This can be planted in the garden afterwards or given away as a thank you gift.

CANDLES

Check with your venue whether they allow candles – some do not due to fire regulations.

Candles and children don’t mix – If you do decide to have candles think about placing them in some sort of container to protect little fingers.

THANK YOU GIFTS

Save money on thank you gifts – give your table decorations away.

Above all, you have what you want – it’s your special day!
